What is Proton Therapy?
As proton beams pass through the human body, they release most of their energy at the targeted position to destroy tumor DNA, while depositing minimal energy along their path, with no exit dose beyond the tumor.
This is made possible by protons' property called the "Bragg peak", where energy is minimal until a very narrow peak, then drops to zero. This dramatically higher precision increases likelihood of curing tumors while reducing toxicity and enhancing quality of life.
The Bragg Peak Advantage
Conventional Radiation
• Energy deposited throughout the path
• Damages healthy tissue before and after tumor
• Significant exit dose beyond target
Proton Therapy
• Minimal energy until target reached
• Maximum energy delivered at tumor site
• Zero exit dose beyond tumor
